Glenn Reynolds seems to be channeling Jonathan Swift in his "A Modest Proposal" days:
ARNOLD KLING ARGUES that efforts to regulate biotechnology as Leon Kass desires would necessarily lead to a worldwide totalitarian dictatorship that would be far more dystopian than the future created by not engaging in such regulation.
So far, bad philosophy has killed a lot more people than biotechnology. Perhaps we should regulate it. . . .
Of course the professor is right to lambast the over-regulation of biotechnology, and his satire is appreciated. Though another man often referred to as the professor reminds us that science like nature must also be tamed, with a view towards its preservation.
